Third Years: Potions Lesson One: Pepper Up (Closed) Empty
PostSubject: Third Years: Potions Lesson One: Pepper Up (Closed)   Third Years: Potions Lesson One: Pepper Up (Closed) EmptyWed Feb 01, 2012 9:30 pm

Jesse stretched, popping his joints as he gathered up the essential ingredients for the potion today. His hair was tousled, his eyes were red with sleep deprivation, and he smelled heavily of ink and, strangely enough, burnt toast. He had been up all night working on a lesson plan, completely forgetting that today was the starting date of classes. A fallacy on his part, but if he hurried, he'd be able to start the lesson off smoothly. He walked out of his classroom only to see kids seated in their seats.

Cheeky bastards, they were.

Jesse sighed and put the ingredients on the desk in front of him, picking up a piece of chalk. The Potions Classroom had changed since Jesse got the job. Gone were the dark, dank, and cold dungeon surroundings, replaced by an old fashioned Chemistry classroom in America, Bunsen burners and all. Though the walls and floors were still stone, there was a great deal more lighting, due to the numerous lighting spells up on the ceiling he had Rune-d in the night before. He had gotten help from the old notebooks Mr. White made him keep in order to do it. He always hated Runes. Not the theories, he actually liked those, but the application, now that was a bitch. He looked at his class - rather small, strangely - and wrote his name on the blackboard.

Professor Jesse Pinkman
Third Year Potions
Cauldrons Out & Ready
Books Open
Class Silent

He looked back and sighed. Walking to the front of the desk, he leaned against it, and stared down the third years.

"My name," He started, his American accent prominent. "Is Jesse Pinkman. You may call me Professor, Professor Pinkman, or Mister Pinkman, while we are in class. I need all of you, and I mean all of you," He said, pointing his finger at the group of students. "Need to pay attention to both what's on the board," He pointed his thumb at the blackboard behind him. "And to me. Not paying attention leads to bad shit happening within the classroom, and we don't want that."

Jesse raised an eyebrow at the class. "Are we all clear on that, or do I need to speak slower?"

Hazel nodded when their professor spoke, pulling out her textbooks, wand, and cauldron. She looked up at him tried not to look him in the eye as he informed them of the rules. Why were teachers allowed to swear, anyway? She looked around the room, trying to spot her friends, without letting Professor Pinkman know she wasn't paying full attention to him. Yet...

Jesse sighed. He looked at the one child, who's name escaped him. His seating chart - which marked the names of the students as they sat in their seats, mentioned her name was Hazel Davis. He looked up, his eyebrow raised. She wasn't paying attention. She was a Ravenclaw, but she might've been here more because she had to, more than she wanted to. Potions was a default class after all.

"Hazel Davis," He called out, much like if he was calling role. "I said to pay attention, not look around for your friends." Calling the rest of the roll, he put the magical seating chart down and walked back to the blackboard. "Today, we're going to learn about one of the many variations of the Pepper-Up potion," Jesse said, writing Pepper-Up on the board.

"Now," He said, turning back to the class. "Pepper-Up is often accredited to curing the Common Cold, but that's just the most common of many formulas. The one we're focusing on today, though, is something that one can use to gain a second wind, twelve hours of energy with one dose. The ingredients needed for this deceivingly complex potion are," Jesse picked up a golden Crystal-like object.

"Powdered butterscotch," Jesse launched a powerful nonverbal Reducto at the plate of butterscotch, turning it to powdered grains that rained into the cauldron. "A handful of Chopped Dragon-tongue," Jesse said, pouring a handful of chopped orange/red flowers into the cauldron. "A bowl of Snake fangs full of Acromantula venom, I know, weird combo," Jesse said, throwing a bowl of fangs into the cauldron, bowl included. A puff of rainbow colored smoke flew out. "Watch out for the smoke, you'll be tripping out for hours." Jesse reached back for the last ingredient.

"And now the Dragon Tears." Jesse said as he up a steel flask. Uncorking it, he used his wand to hold it away from him as it sparked to life, and took the form of a white hot, sparking, wingless dragon climbing out of the flask, only for it to give out a piercing shriek as it fell into the cauldron, a large puff of pink smoke to erupt.

"Now, this is a far more potent version of the energizing Pepper-Up potion, since you won't be able to get fresh Dragon Tears anywhere," Jesse looked down to see his cauldron's fire unlit.

"It's also why I didn't light up my cauldron, since the Dragon Tears heat it up on it's own." Jesse sighed as he got up and sat on his desk.

"Now tell me class, what other applications do Dragon Tears serve?" This was the teaching part. He hated that he couldn't do it like Mr. White.

Lizzie was slightly out of breath when she reached the classroom, having had to rush back to her dormitory after realising she had forgotten her Potions book, and the Ravenclaw Towers was quite far from the dungeons!!
"Sorry I'm late, Prfessor!" She said, genuinely worried about what the Professor's response to her late arrival would be. She honestly hadn't meant to be late. After all, Potions was one of her favourite subjects.

She could already see the words Pepper Up written on the board, and was excited to begin. She took her seat next to Hazel, smiling slightly in greeting, before getting out her Potions book and wand and laying them on the desk in front of her. She then turned to the correct page in her book for the Pepper-Up Potion and looked at the Professor, hoping she hadn't missed too much of the lesson.

"Sorry I'm late, Professor!" Jesse stared at the girl who barged in and took a seat. The seating chart labeled her as Elizabeth King. He sighed. "Fuck me," He said aloud, his head hanging back. He looked at the girl, Elizabeth King. "Ms. King, I'm Professor Pinkman. I don't care what you do or who you are, I'm not repeating the fucking lesson. Now, you'd better have a good fucking reason why you're here so late in the lesson." He held up his hand. "Save it, see me after class. But for now, the rest of your house has to suffer for your incompetence. Ten points from Ravenclaw." Several of the other students moaned and groaned, but he paid no mind.

Jesse sighed and picked up a flask from his desk. "Alohamora," He said, and smiled when it flipped open. He took a swig before capping it and returning to the lesson. He looked at Ms. King. "Now, Ms. King, since you're late, would you mind telling the others what the other uses of Dragon Tears are?"

Hazel winced as Professor Pinkman yelled at Elizabeth. Never having been a fan of Potions, just being screamed at would be enough, especially with the point deduction but Lizzie actually liked the class so she probably felt guilty about it as well. She stole a glance as her friend sat down beside her, trying not to blush on the other Ravenclaw's behalf. That would have to be embarrassing.

"Now, Ms. King, since you're late, would you mind telling the others what the other uses of Dragon Tears are?"

Ohhh... Hazel let her eyes flicker down to her own textbook page to see the answer, knowing that Lizzie probably knew it but never sure. Her friend always reads the school books over the summer and comes to school way ahead. Which can help when Hazel can't remember the answer to their homework. It also works out that they have almost the exact same schedule.

Lizzie hung her head in shame as the Professor reprimanded her and deducted points. She hated being told off in class, unlike her older sister, Melissa, who had quite the attitude. Then the Professor asked her for the 'other' uses of Dragon Tears. She could have sworn she almost stopped breathing for a split second. She screwed her eyes shut, trying desperately to remember anything about them in the Potions textbook. Alas, she must have missed them.

"They can be used to heat things up," she began, having missed the part of the lesson when Professor Pinkman told the class that use. "And... can they also have healing properties?" She guessed. She could not remember reading anything to do with Dragon Tears, but she took an educated guess by using her knowledge of Dragon Blood. She knew that Dragon Blood had healing properties, so she figured that Dragon Tears must be similar in at least some ways.

Lumen sat quietly at her table, inwardly scoffing at her table partner, who really did not seem to understand the concept of personal space. As the professor questioned the two young girls, Lumen lowered her eyes, purposely avoiding any and all eye contact. She scribbled on a parchment piece, leaning back into her seat and not daring to look up.
She knew the answer, of course, but the professor looked rather intimidating, and she was afraid that her tongue would just twist and make a double-knot if he were to call on her.
