Lee Ann settled down in the classroom, her lesson plan out in front of her. She flipped through a few pages and sighed, loudly, when she realized she'd forgotten the one for the third years. Rummaging next door, she found a folder marker "Lesson Plan- 3", which she assumed must be the right one. She really needed to label those better.

She sat down, examined it and then rose to write across her white board,

Muggle Studies
Professor Sanders
Year Three

She plopped back down and waited the arrival of her class, anxiously.

Lizzie entered the class and took a seat in the middle row and to the left side of the classroom, not wanting to be thought nerdy by her peers for sitting right at the front, nor rebellious by the professor for sitting right at the back. This was her first lesson of Muggle Studies, and she was the only one in her friendship group who had chosen to take the subject. Still, she was keen to learn what she could. She had always found Muggles interesting, and couldn't wait to finally learn about how they lived and how they coped without magic. She thought it was to do with something called eckeltricity, or something that sounded like that anyway. And also, what was a rubber duck?! All these things and more she hoped to learn in this class, and so she got her book and wand out, placing them on the desk in front of her, and looked expectantly at the professor.

Lee Ann looked up to see that her class had gathered. It was a small class but that would make it easier to teach. She stood up and fell into the rhythm of teaching Muggle Studies almost instantly. Her notes told her to start with daily life and she knew that most of the students probably didn't know anything about muggles and to start basic even though she had grown up surrounded by them.

But first things first and so she grabbed her clipboard and started reading off names, finding role call to be the most boring part of class. "Okay, let's see."

"King, Elizabeth."

"Here, Professor!" Lizzie answered as her name was called out. She was surprised by how small the class was; she thought there would be more students than there were in here. Then again, most students seemed to prefer the subjects that actually involved using magic. Whilst she admittedly loved learning more about what she could do, she had always been fascinated by Muggles and couldn't understand why more students wouldn't want to learn about them. It was so different to the way they lived...

She snapped herself out of her thoughts as the Professor ended the role call and waited eagerly for the class to begin. Eckeltricity? Or rubber ducks? Or those things they called cars? Whatever they would learn today, she couldn't wait!

Lee Ann finished role call and explained the lesson plan. "We'll be covering Muggle's basic day-to-day lives in this class: things such as electricity, schooling, and transportation. If you stick with it into four year and on, we'll get more advanced but this class today will just sum up what we'll learn this year and give you a basic understanding of muggles."

She reached over to her desk and pulled out a plug, showing it off to the class. "This is how electricity works. Do any of you have any idea what sorts of things muggles use electricity for?"

Lee Ann looked around the room, awaiting any raised hands that might meet her question.

Lizzie grinned as the Professor began telling them what they would cover during the year, and she only grew more excited as she showed the class a strange device that looked like a plastic block with 3 metal prongs sticking out of one side. She frowned at it, unsure what it was, until Professor Sanders told them it was used for electricity.
Electricity, not eckeltricity, she thought. Then she began to think about what Muggles used it for and put up her hand.

"Televisiton?" she asked, not sure if she had the wording quite right, but she was pretty sure that that was a Muggle device that required electricity.

"Exactly right, Ms. King. Five points to Ravenclaw. It is used for television. Anyone else?"

She waited as a few others answered. Lamps, phones She nodded at each answer and explained, patiently.
"Yes, it's used for those things as well. Lamps are like the muggle version of lumos. I'm sure you've all seen lights? Not from candles but the more sophisticated, modern lightbulbs and such."

Lee Ann waved her wand and lit it up, "See? It's just like this, like lumos."

"The most important thing about electricity," she reminded them, "is don't touch the prongs on the plug." She waved it around and showed them, explaining about electrical shocks.

Then she moved on to transportation. "Muggles use such things as cars, boats, trains, buses, planes. Have any of you been on any of those? They're much different that apparition or floo power."

[You're going to have to edit this once Lee Ann edits hers(the post above this one) as electrical items don't work in Hogwarts.]

Lizzie grinned as she earned 5 points for Ravenclaw for being correct in her answer, and listened as more students gave answers. When someone mentioned lamps, Lizzie's eyes widened in awe as Professor Sanders put the plastic block into another plastic thing which had gaps in the same places the prongs on the block were and a light lit up on the Professor's desk. It was amazing to see something like that happen without needing to cast a lumos spell!

She muttered a little "ohhhh" along with many other students in the class as the light went off so that the Professor could show them more about the little plastic block, which she called a plug. It was so clever! Although she took a certain dislike to it when the Professor explained about electric shocks... they sounded painful!

The Professor then began talking about transportation, and gave them a list of examples. When she asked if they had ever been on any, Lizzie stuck her hand in the air.

"Professor, isn't the Hogwarts Express a train? Is that a train like the Muggles use too?" she asked curiously. "Oh! And the Knight Bus! Is that like a Muggle bus?"

"You're right, Ms. King. Five more points for Ravenclaw. There are muggle inventions in our lives and the Hogwarts express is like a muggle train but the Knight Bus is... a unique bus. Muggle buses don't have beds in them and don't shrink or fit between cars. And they're not invisible but the same general idea."

Lee Ann pulled up some pictures and pinned them to her whiteboard, pointing out the vehicles. "This, here, is a car. You may know that the ministry uses cars to blend in with the muggles. Cars can come in many different colors. Green, blue, brown, white, black, etc. And there are many different types."

"Then there are also planes. Don't worry, they won't fall out the sky," She moved over to point out the flying mechanism, "They don't use Wingardium Leviosa but rather the big winds and propellers to keep them up."

She continued explaining planes and then moved onto the other modes of transportation. "Does anyone have any questions?"

Lizzie grinned as she received another 5 points for Ravenclaw. She had already gained 10 points within her first class of the year! She didn't spend long thinking about this, however, as the Professor was briefly explaining the differences between the Knight Bus and Muggles busses. The Knight Bus sounded a lot more interesting, but she couldn't help thinking that she would rather go on a Muggle bus; after all, she and many others hated it when the Knight Bus altered it's shape to fit between gaps. That was so uncomfortable!

The next vehicle they looked at were cars, and Elizabeth recognized them from the streets of London. She had never been in one herself, but she was sure her father, who worked for the Ministry, had spoken about driving them around the city before. Apparently they were quite complicated to drive... lots of buttons to push with both hands and feet.

Planes were next, and Lizzie frowned, looking at the big vehicle dubiously. They really didn't look safe; they looked far too heavy to fly that high in the air! And how did wind and propellers keep them up? When the Professor asked for questions, Lizzie put her hand up.

"How do the winds and propellers work to keep the plane up?" She asked, really not sure how anything could keep such a large invention in the air without magic.

Lee Ann began to explain about take off when she glanced at the clock. Realizing it was time to go, she turned back to her class. "Ohhh... we're out of time. See you next time."

She watched as they filed out of the classroom and collapsed back into her chair, excited for the first day of classes to be over.

Lizzie couldn't believe the lesson was over so quickly! She really enjoyed the class, and couldn't wait for her next lesson! She stood up and filed out of the room with her peers, getting caught up in the excited conversations that were going on as she did so. Apparently she wasn't the only one who had loved learning about electricity and transport! There was a lot of speculation as to what they would cover next time, but whatever it was, Lizzie knew it would be fascinating!
