Character background: When Hazel was two years old, her father divorced her mother for his pregnent girlfriend. Her and her mother were sent to live in a bad neighborhood because they had no money and her mother was killed when Hazel was at pre-school. A four year old Hazel returned to her father, step-mother, and step-brother.
A few years later, a six year old Andrew pushed Hazel into a well and if not for her magic, she might have died. He swore it was an accident and was never punished but the two have hated each other with a vengence ever since. Her mother was the one with magic and since Linda doesn't have magic, either, she hopes Andrew won't attend Hogwarts next year where she was sorted into Ravenclaw for her wits and outgoing personality.
The open, slightly sarcastic girl loves Hogwarts and rarely returns to her family over Winter and Spring break, claiming her parents don't love her and she's fallen hard since her mother's death and her brother's attempt to kill her.
