Reading or Plotting....(Open!) Empty

Read. Scribble. Flip page. Staz ran a hand through her hair in a movement that only one who knew her well enough would be able to tell was a frustrated manner. It had been the same monotonous routine for the last few hours. Days really, if she were being honest with herself. It was definitely not the way she would rather spend her time. But she didn't want to disappoint her father. Again.

She sighed. The words of his last letter floated to the front of her mind. As if I'm not under enough pressure as it is... she thought, rolling her eyes and finally giving into the urge she had had for the past two hours and closing her book with a small snap. She glanced around the library, spotting several other of her year mates obviously studying as well. None of which she really knew or really cared to go out of her way to in any case. She was perfectly happy at her own table where she could kick her feet up on the chair across from her. Which they were. She leaned back in her chair, tapping her quill absently on the book she had just closed.

Thoughts wandering, she didn't notice the annoyed looks she was getting from those in the area. Bloody Sixth year! She thought irritatingly, glaring at nothing in response to her internal voice. How was anyone supposed to have any kind of fun with all this studying and work the professors had dumped on them?! It would serve them right to have some catastrophe or other happen the day of the exams.

Heeeey... Suddenly, her look turned from that of the glare to one of thoughtfulness. Now there's an idea... A slow smirk spread onto her lips as she considered the option, never noticing the person who came over to her table.

Effy had just gotten out of one of her first "detentions" of the year with an unnamed male professor that she had various "detentions" with in her sixth year. Adjusting her hair in a passing by window, she headed towards the third floor. Heading back to the girls' housing would only end up with her being questioned by the girls in her room. It wasn't that she would tell them, no, Effy never told anyone what she did with the teachers. She needed a much quieter place to relax, her form of relaxing that is.

Once she arrived in the library, she noticed that there were plenty of other students here doing homework. Wait, people actually did homework? She often just had her best friends do it. She opted for an empty table in the very back of the library where it was much quieter. The girl muttered a spell quietly to light the joint that she had just placed between her pink lips. After taking a drag, she held it in before blowing it out slowly, staring out a window, looking far into the sea that was protecting Durmstrang.

"Aren't you supposed to ask before you sit?" Staz asked lightly, her British acting more noticeable as her voice was distracted, not looking up from her work until the faint, slightly acrid smell of weed registered. Looking up, she raised an eyebrow at the girl sitting opposite to her. "You are Effy?" It was a question that didn't sound very much like a question. She hadn't heard much about the girl, just a smattering of rumors. She wondered how many of them were true but couldn't sum up enough curiosity to be bothered enough to ask.

Pushing her messy hair out off her eyes and into an equally messy pony tail out of which many strands escaped, she looked back at her work, frowning and beginning her usual routine of reading, scribbling and flipping the page. It was in these moments that she felt the lack of a friend noticeable, but not enough to actually do something about it.

"Aren't you supposed to ask before you sit?" Some girl at the same table asked. She could have sworn she picked an empty one. Perhaps she wasn't paying attention enough. Then again, what was there to pay attention to? This was the first time she had heard someone else with an English accent. She knew someone in her year had a thick Irish accent, but she was under the impression she was the only one who lived in England at Durmstrang. Effy's eyebrow raised slightly, though. The girl sounded like some posh Londoner.

Effy's blue hues travelled over to the girl before back out to the window, completely ignoring her. Plenty of people tried to talk to Effy but the only people she gave the time of day was someone who either just happened to strike her fancy or someone who found something interesting to talk about.

"You are Effy?"

"Who wants to know?" The seventh year didn't even bother to turn towards the girl when she talked to her, her eyes still glued to the window, her right hand bringing her joint to her mouth idly, sucking the smoke deep into her lungs once more.

"Bugs bunny, what do you think?" Staz shot back sarcastically, before rolling her eyes at herself for mentioning 'Bugs Bunny'. It was only because of Brielle and her stupid Saturday cartoons. And the films. And the merchandise. And the rides where she dragged Staz off to. Forcibly, it should be added. She looked up at the girl just in time to see her take another drag of the joint. making a face and resisting the urge to throw the joint out of the window, she focused instead at her work.

It was only after the few minutes of silence that she noticed a curious fact about the girl. The girl didn't have a Bulgarian, Croatian or German accent when she spoke. In fact, her voice was distinctly British. Again she felt the slight curiosity in herself to find out if the girl really did stay in Britain during the holidays, but again she couldn't be bothered enough, instead choosing to finish her work in silence.

"Bugs bunny, what do you think?"

There was a pause before Effy replied with a simple monotone "funny." She wasn't sure even what year this girl was from. Unless Effy had a class with them, she didn't pay attention enough to the other students to know what year they were in or even their names. Even with her classmates, she didn't pay much attention, no, it was the older men in the staff that the half-German, half-English girl paid attention to. They were the only ones in this shithole worthy of her time.

Blue hues travelled from the window to the spliff that was sitting idly on her lips. She would give anything for some narcotics right now or maybe perhaps even a drink(narcotics definitely preferred), but this would have to do for now. All of the Muggle friends Effy had back in Bristol were much more fun than people in this dump. They raved, partied, had adventures.. People here just did their homework. She always knew that a place like this was no where for her.

Staz just shrugged in reply. She had heard, or rather guessed about Effy's part crazy and if the rumors were right, sex crazy life and she had no wish to join in. She loved herself too much to subject herself to anything even mildly threatening. Unless of course, her curiosity was intrigued. If something caught her fancy, then she might risk something to reach the answers but over here, there wasn't much to do. And if she did do something, her parents and Ariadne were on it in a flash. Even Brielle joined them, which was just plain annoying because last time she checked, she was older to her. Not the other way round.

She looked out the window, for a moment wondering what life would be like if she was like Effy too. She quickly dropped the idea, she had no real urge to find out. Sighing she closed the book with a snap and pulled another book towards herself. Research wasn't done from a single book only. facts had to be checked, re-checked and sometimes fudged.
